MultiTest™ Marine Basic

  • Combines the Marine pH & Alkalinity, Ammonia, and Nitrite & Nitrate kits
  • Multi-cavity plate for simultaneous testing of up to 6 tests at the same time
  • Includes reference for test validation

This kit combines the Marine pH & Alkalinity, Ammonia, and Nitrite & Nitrate kits into one kit. MultiTest™ Marine Basic performs over 75 tests and contains reference samples for validation.

Marine pH & Alkalinity

The Marine pH & Alkalinity test features a unique dye that has a pronounced color change between 8.0 and 8.3, making it the easiest kit on the market to read in that critical range. It is suitable for marine or brackish water only. Alkalinity may be read from the same sample in 0.5 meq/L increments.

Ammonia

The ammonia test measures total (NH3 and NH4+) and free ammonia (NH3 only) down to less than 0.05 mg/L and is virtually interference free in marine and fresh water. Free ammonia is the toxic form of ammonia and thus it is much more important to keep an eye on the level of free ammonia in your system. This test may be used with freshwater or marine water.

Nitrite/Nitrate

The Nitrite/Nitrate test measures nitrite to less than 0.1 mg/L and nitrate to less than 0.2 mg/L in marine or freshwater. The values reported are expressed as nitrite and nitrate rather than nitrogen (to convert to nitrogen, simply divide by 3.3 and 4.4, respectively).

Features

75 Tests

MultiTest™ Marine Basic performs over 75 tests each of marine pH and alkalinity, ammonia, and nitrite/nitrate

And with the multi-cavity test plate, multiple tests can be run at the same time.

Accuracy

Range

pH: 7.80–8.70
Alkalinity: 0–∞
Ammonia: 0–6 mg/L
Nitrite: 0-25 mg/L
Nitrate: 0–50 mg/L

Precision

Detectable changes on the color chart in the following increments:

pH: 0.01 pH units
Alkalinity: 0.5 meq/L
Ammonia: 0.01–0.1 mg/L
Nitrite/Nitrate: 0.1–1 mg/L

Reference Sample

It isn't necessary to run a reference test to use this kit; however, its proper performance can be validated by running a test in the normal manner except that the reference sample is used in place of aquarium sample. You might choose to run a reference test if you have cause to believe the test is giving incorrect results. If you run a test using the reference sample and obtain the correct result (based on the known reference value provided) then you can safely be sure the test is giving accurate results.

Color Chart

All MultiTest™ test kits come with an easy-to-read color chart. It features a 5 cm viewing window to help isolate color and match as closely as possible to the test sample

Opaque Multi-Cavity Test Plate

All MultiTest™ test kits are read from an opaque white test plate. The sliding color chart along with the six-cavity test plate allows for easy reading and comparisons of several samples at the same time.

A: The test well you are using may be contaminated with Nitrate Reagent#2. Soak the test well sheet in vinegar overnight, then rinse thoroughly with tap water, followed by DI water, and dry completely.

A: If you are getting a pronounced nitrite reading, it is not possible to get an accurate nitrate reading, since the nitrite reading will interfere. You should be able to make a very approximate assessment of nitrate, since the nitrate color will be additive to the nitrite color.

A: Unfortunately, there is not a test kit on the market that can distinguish between the bound form of nitrites/nitrates in the presence of Prime® and the unbound form without Prime®. As long as you have dosed the correct amount of Prime® to your aquarium, you can rest assured that the nitrites and nitrates are safely detoxified.

A: There was an unfortunate typo on several batches of the Nitrate instructions in which the reference was listed as 1 mg/L; it is actually 10 mg/L (which actually makes your problem even more pronounced!). However, if you do the two following two things your test should read the reference correctly (a) use 2 full stems of sample instead of 1 and (b) vigorously shake, squeeze and tap on a table the Nitrate Reagent#2 so that you obtain a very distinctly grey drop. Assuming you get a correct reading with the reference, you can now run your test samples in the same manner and be assured of the test's accuracy. If have followed the above instructions yet you still get too low a reading for the reference, then contact us to obtain replacement reagents.

KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN! Reagents may be irritating. Avoid skin or eye contact. Do not drink. pH Reagent is flammable. In case of contact wash thoroughly with water.

The Total Ammonia Reagent of this kit contains strong alkali and the sensor storage/regeneration gel contains a strong acid. Either may be hazardous if used carelessly. If accidental spillage or contact occurs, wash exposed area thoroughly with water. If eye entry occurs, rinse eyes immediately with water for 10 minutes and then seek medical attention.
